After STD treatment, the useful question is what happens next for your particular infection. How do I check that I understood the instructions?
Read back the plan to the treating team if anything is unclear. Ask what to do about a missed dose, vomiting after medicine or a possible side effect; the answer depends on the treatment. Do not double a dose, stop early or add a second medicine based on this website.

What should my partner and I confirm?
Ask which partners need notification or assessment and how to do this safely. Each person needs appropriate advice rather than shared medicines. Confirm the infection-specific restrictions on sexual contact and whether partners must also complete treatment before those restrictions end.

Which follow-up test am I being asked to book?
A clinician may recommend a test of cure, later testing for reinfection, both or neither depending on the infection and circumstances. Ask for the test name, specimen and timing. Testing too soon or repeating a broad panel without a reason may not answer the clinical question.
- Write down whether the purpose is response to treatment or possible reinfection.
