Practical questions

Wrong details on an STI report: request correction

A misspelled name, wrong date of birth or unfamiliar identifier on an STI report should be checked with the issuing service. It may be an administrative error, but do not assume the result belongs to you until the service verifies the record. Do not edit the PDF yourself to make it look correct.

Contact the verified issuing service

Use a contact route already confirmed through the provider’s official website or your appointment paperwork. Explain the mismatch, specimen date and report reference without forwarding the document to an unverified social account. Ask what identity evidence is needed and how it should be submitted securely. Keep the original report so the team can trace the issue; changing a name locally does not verify the specimen or repair the clinical record.

Ask for record verification, not only reprinting

Ask whether the error affects the report header only or whether specimen identity and result attribution need investigation. The laboratory or care team should explain the verified conclusion and whether a corrected report or another sample is needed. A factual correction differs from disagreeing with a clinical interpretation. Do not request that staff silently delete an uncomfortable finding; accurate amendment and a traceable explanation protect future care.

Clarify what is safe to rely on meanwhile

Tell the treating clinician that attribution is being checked before making medicine or partner-care decisions from that report. Ask how any urgent clinical concern will be handled while the administrative investigation continues. Significant pain, fever or a recent time-sensitive exposure should not be left untreated simply because a report needs correction. Once resolved, obtain the verified version and ask which earlier copies should no longer be used in clinical handovers.

Common questions

Can I correct the name in the PDF myself?

No. Ask the issuing service to verify and formally correct the record.

Does a typo always mean a sample mix-up?

No, but the service must check rather than asking you to assume either explanation.

Should urgent symptoms wait for the correction?

No. Seek clinical assessment and explain the record uncertainty.

Sources and information limits

Sources support general medical principles, not the UAE booking policies or service availability. Confirm instructions and local arrangements with the care provider. The update date does not claim clinician review.

Questions before arranging an appointment?

Enquire about the next steps and availability. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or diagnosis and is not an emergency service.
